Village Hearth FAQs
Who lives at Village Hearth?
Village Hearth is a community created by and for LGBTQ folks, friends, and allies, primarily 55 and older. We are gay and straight, single and partnered, working and retired. We are artists, musicians, educators, carpenters, animal lovers, health care workers, educators, social and environmental activists, and more. We are an eclectic, active, and engaged group, whether it be hiking, cooking, gardening, volunteering, or cultural activities.
How much privacy do residents have at Village Hearth?
Cohousing neighborhoods are designed for privacy as well as community. We balance privacy and community by choosing the levels of engagement we want to have with each other.
What are the homes like?
There are 28 one-story cottages in seven buildings, each containing four attached homes, each with a covered front porch and a private backyard. The homes are single-story cottages with open floor plans, abundant light, lots of windows, skylights, vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, attic storage, and granite counter-tops in the kitchens. Thick interior walls and high-grade-insulation prevent noise travelling through shared interior walls. The homes are built using quality materials and Universal Design principles, including wide doorways and halls, handicap-accessible bathrooms with a roll-in shower, and low or no thresholds.
What are the common facilities like?
The 2600 square foot common house is the heart of the community. It has a gourmet kitchen, large dining/multipurpose room separated from a sitting/media room by a double-sided fireplace, laundry, office, craft room, exercise room, guest suite, and a spacious terrace. In addition, we have a separate workshop/maintenance building with plans for an art studio, a storage building, and a dog park. The five-acre developed area has ADA-compliant gentle grades. The remaining ten of our fifteen acres will be mostly natural with woods, walking paths, a beautiful oak meadow, and space for meditation, gardens, chickens, and a dog park.
Are pets allowed?
We welcome your pets.
What are the sizes and prices of the homes?
Initial offering prices ranged from the low 300's to the mid 400's. Since we have successfully sold all units, future pricing will be at market rates. Village Hearth has three floor plans:
