Meet Lisa

Creating a cohousing community requires many talents—and we are fortunate that Lisa has shared hers with us. An attorney who lives in Dallas, Texas, Lisa has helped us align our visions of “aging-in-place utopia” with the more mundane, but essential, requirements of forming a homeowners association.

Lisa has practiced law in several areas: domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, real estate, and employee benefits. She worked in St. Louis the first part of her career, before moving to San Antonio. She lived there for three years before moving to Dallas in 1996.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Lisa has two brothers, one sister, and ten nephews and nieces. She adds, “I am also fortunate to have my mom who will be 95 on August 2.”

“I have been planning my retirement for about two years,” says Lisa who plans to retire at the end of this year. “Two essential criteria for me were to live in a community where being gay was a nonissue, and a community where friendship and giving and receiving support was a strong value. I first learned of Village Hearth in a magazine. I knew after one visit that I had found my retirement home.”

Nameera - the beauty, and doesn't she know it.

Ike - obviously the character in the family
Joining Lisa in her journey to Durham are her three cats: Ike, Henry and Nameera. She looks forward to enjoying the diverse offerings of the Triangle area. “I enjoy playing golf, hiking, biking and generally outside activities.  I also like attending plays, going to concerts, travelling and watching women’s golf, basketball and soccer.”

Golf is paramount among her interests. Lisa is up at 4:30 a.m. every day for her exercise regimen that keeps her at the top of her game. The renowned golf courses of North Carolina beckon! And Lisa is already checking them out—she recently experienced the thrill of playing golf at Pinehurst.

We appreciate Lisa’s contributions to our community, and look forward to her arrival! And should we ever decide to add mini golf to our outdoor recreation space, we know who to turn to!
